Avoid this company
I rang what I thought was Stepchange.org for debt advice and was put through to Clear Start. I signed up with them on a debt management plan. They took 4 payments of £180 from me on my debit card and it was only when I rang the creditors after receiving letters and referrals to debt collection, that I found out that only one of them had received a communication asking for a balance on the account. Clear start had not been in contact with any of the others in 4 months ! In the meantime the debt and interest was increasing. I asked to cancel the plan by email as my telephone calls were ignored and never received a reply. It was only when I blocked my debit card through the bank that I received calls and texts stating that I had to pay another £180 to cancel the agreement with them. A rude man rang and asked when I would be paying £180 and why was my card blocked. He wasn’t interested in the fact that I had been fleeced for £720 already for doing nothing ! I refused and blocked the numbers and have reported this company to Citizens Advice and will be taking this further. They are preying on vulnerable people who have contacted them in the first place for genuine help. stepchange.org are a free charity offering help and advice and told me they could help me set up a debt management plan in place for free.

Preying on the POOR
This company are charlatans who prey on poor people in debt. I know of vulnerable people who are paying over 100% of their debt in fees over and above the fact that the debtor has to contact the creditor monthly to make then payment. The debtor then pays the other 50% to these charlatans. Completely immoral.

Had hoped for a better service all they caused was more worried days and night .I joined them 5 months ago to sort out my debt problems and all they did was get one of my debt in place .They have not contacted some of my debt companies and to top it they almost got me to join a solicitor firm that promises they could get reduced payments lol found out that would of cost me £1,200 more enough was enough I also found that on your account they set up all the account numbers were false do not match any of my debt accounts. FULL OF BROKEN PROMISES..This has caused me mental anxiety and I am going to see a counselling lady at my surgery. Avoid as this company prays on the worrying of people with dept problems and to top it off they will be taking there last payment out to put me in further hardship .There should be a regulation on firms like this heartless lies and misrepresentation AVOID AVOID!!!

Don't use clearstart I was told about stepchange by a friend unfortunately I got had I got a clone step change website which goes directly through to clearstart accountants it wasn't till I spoke to a friend he said stepchange don't charge fees and the correct site has. Org on it I contacted bank and was yold to contact clearstart to request a refund they denied all knowledge of having dealings with stepchange and only dealt with debt solutions I contacted debt solutions and they said they don't deal with third parties and investigating them told bank they had no intention of paying the £384 they could only pay me back £192 as it gone over 6 months and im trying to get the other £192 back if I hadn't checked they would have had £1,590 in fees out of me and to too it of I was having a go at lowell saying clearstart dealing with it but they wasn't so took there's as well as when I contacted stepchange. Org lowell. Replied to them within days
